The Guelph Spotlight is a community run social calendar for downtown Guelph and surrounding area. Events can be submitted by any member of the community and shared to the site for others to find. What area does The Guelph Spotlight focus on?
The Guelph Spotlight focuses on downtown Guelph and the surrounding area. More specifically, around a twenty minute walk from St. George's Square in each direction so from York Road to London Road, and Edinburgh Road to Stevenson Street. You may add locations from all over Guelph but we only focus on highlighting events happening in the downtown core at the moment.
The location of my event isn't on the list!
The Guelph Spotlight is currently managed by a very limited (one person!) team, so it will take a while to get a complete list. If you email guelphspotlight@gmail.com with the location you want of your event, it will added as soon as possible. It will then be usable for anyone else going forward. You can also use the location "Downtown Guelph" or which side of Guelph the event takes place, and have the location in the description. That way your event is posted promptly and we can add the location at a later date.
What do I do if my location is in multiple places?
Use the dropdown option "Downtown Guelph" or which side of Guelph the event takes place, and list the locations in the description of your event. You can also use the "Learn More" link to direct interested users to your website or socials to find more information.
When will my event be posted?
The Guelph Spotlight is systematically updated once an hour. If your event has been submitted but not posted within that time frame, please reach out to guelphspotlight@gmail.com and we will ensure it appears on the site in a timely manner.
Why is the event format so limiting?
Information shared here is meant to be simple. It's meant to be the when and where of an event, in an easy to digest format. It informs people of that something is happening and where to find out more if they want.
Who are you? Why are you doing this?
I'm a Guelph local who has been frequenting the downtown since I was young. I went to elementary and highschool here and even attempted a Comp Sci degree at the Univeristy of Guelph (unsuccessfully). I used Music Lives every weekend just to end up at Jimmy Jazz at the end of every night. I love Guelph and I wanted to foster some of the pre-COVID downtown connection I felt was missing in my life. The entire site is build out of love for the community I grew up in (and monetary recklessness).
